I’m worried about the smoking trend among young people. I was really hoping this generation would be the one smart enough to kill the tobacco industry. How do we do that?
I know right?! We may be smart enough, but epigenetic influences and genes will always outrun the mind... old habits die hard, but not when they're intergenerational! I know a lot of people my age and my siblings' age smoke because their parents (usually fathers) did, it was just a part of the air. They're preconditioned for the habit and have a astounding awareness of how bad it is for them, sort of an on-trend sleazy thing it's become.
I believe that we can do that by understanding/admitting the overlooked truths that: 1. nicotine is a useful - moreover, a needed medicine and the chemicals added to the tobacco and that comprise vapes, are what are actually highly dangerous (but less dangerous than eating macdonalds fries for eg). 2. They may not trust their parents or the medical profession anymore about any information sourced by the media, and until mum and dad make time to address that, disobedience and more rebellious behavoir may be occurring. Gem mentioned the sincerity of a poster who was not paid, which highlights the possibility that people across all generations may be experiencing brand trust issues due to a lack of sincere inspiration or innovation in their commercial world. Great read
love her! I have a 13, about to be 14 yo and the bit about preferring regular girls in their bedrooms vs. influencers is so real!! I'm glad they seem to be going for the more authentic vibe. :)
right! so interesting :) i wonder if we're going to start seeing a lot more micro influencers rather than a few top-performing macro influencers in the future...
yes! the note about cigs, which i think is so interesting now that alot of vaping stuff lets you customize your stick and what not. As for cigs, i believe we have drunk cigs to thank for that... this weird idea that so long as i'm having it when im drunk its not really a thing.
As someone who’s only alive because he quit smoking in 1964 when the Surgeon General’s Smoking and Health report was released I am greatly heartened to see that these vapid, empty headed youth will never achieve my longevity simply because of their ignorance. Nice going.
This didn't land in the correct spot. It is in response to the claim that vaping hasn't been around long enough to determine if it is dangerous
Not true. Been around since 2008 (I used it to quit smoking in 2010). The harm reduction is undisputed. The only 'dangerous' thing they found was in ONE Chinese atomizer that used lead solder and was tested 15 years ago. Nicotine IS addictive and shouldn't be used by anyone with vascular issues, but is it better than smoking? ABSOLUTELY!
That quote about her frontal lobe…god bless 😂
Hahahah we had so much fun with this

Because the cigarette industry and big pharma (aided by their captive cancer groups) have villainized vaping, which is MUCH less harmful than smoking.
We don't know this. There isn't enough research because vapes haven't been around for enough time to measure long-term effects.
That’s not true.
Thank you for this Gemma!!! Needed.
this was so fun!!!
You sisters are so vibey and genuine. Loved that.
Aw, thank you!

“The rise of cigarettes again.”
